Hollie Joy

Hollie Joy’s first performances happened during morning sessions at the West-Brisbane Bowls Club her mum worked at when she was little, on an ancient upright piano, to a devoted and captive audience of retired women. When the Bowls Club got knocked down to make way for a block of units, the piano ended up back at her family’s regional property, where it still stands today.

It took another 15 years for Hollie to release her first solo material, which live audiences have already had the chance to see when she played sold out shows in iconic venues supporting the likes of WAAX, Sweater Curse and Connor Brooker, but the wait is well worth it. Her debut double-single “I’m Stuck / Bad Guy” set out two stories from the past which helped her to find her storytelling voice, and belief in her future as an artist. A band of familiar faces from the Meanjin music scene (and fierce friends) support her woozy melodies, which take listeners back to the still, sun-dappled afternoons they were written on.

Featuring an all-star band including members of Sweater Curse, Melaleuca, Flamingo Blonde & Life Admin, and with a debut EP set for release in 2022, Hollie Joy is songwriting and live act to get excited by.

Catch Hollie Joy on the 1st of October at GRAIN's Birthday Weekender.
