Today we announce the final lineup for Brisbane's longest running live music club night SILO.
GRAIN started putting on SILO nights back in 2018 at The Foundry Brisbane before finding a new home post-covid at The Brightside Brisbane. Across 26 editions, 113 artists have graced the SILO stage, including acts like: Royel Otis, Genesis Owusu, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Bad//Dreems, Phantastic Ferniture, Floodlights, Teenage Dads and Good Morning to name a few.
For the final instalment, we wanted to go all out. So we have crammed in 9 bands into 1 night across 2 stages at The Brightside Brisbane.
Featuring DZ Deathrays, Radio Free Alice, a Secret Act (to be announced soon), Sex Mask, Melaleuca's final show, Sonic Reducer, Dogworld, Ghost Mutt, Alison & GRAIN DJ's.
DZ DEATHRAYS
The first act on the lineup hardly needs any introduction. Brisbane legends DZ Deathrays have been one of this city's best bands for almost 15 years. They've genuinely shaped Australian-based guitar music for over a decade and continue to do so. Over the years the band has played major festivals around the world and at home such as Reading and Leeds, Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festivals, Laneway. They've won ARIA awards, been credited with every album and are constantly touring somewhere around the globe.
They're one of the best acts to come out of Australia and we are honoured for them to join us for the final SILO.
RADIO FREE ALICE
Radio Free Alice may be a new discovery for you but they're likely about to become your favourite band. Having been mentioned in this years' NME 100 and Monster Children's Bright Young Things - the hype for RFA has been brewing for a while.
Their debut self-titled EP (2023) was nominated for Best Independent Punk Album or EP at the AIR Awards and quickly followed up with Polyester EP which landed them on the cover of DORK (UK). The band has received support from BBC Music 6, Apple Music 1, Radio X, triple j, CLASH, Rolling Stone and So Young Magazine.
They’ve played enormous shows all over the world including Lost Paradise, Splendour In The Grass, Dot To Dot, Live At Leeds, London Calling Amsterdam, The Great Escape, Rock For People Budapest, Wide Awake, Mood Swings, Party In The Paddock, Loch Hart, SXSW Sydney and Bigsound. They've recently announced that they'll be moving to the UK this year and instantly sold out 2 shows at the Nightcat in Melbourne and 2 at Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney.
RFA are one of the most exciting post-punk acts in the country right now and we are absolutely stoked to be hosting their last Brisbane show for a while at SILO 27.
SEX MASK
Sex Mask has been on our mind since their shows at BIGSOUND last year. A relatively new act in the Naarm/Australian scene but instantly sounding like heavyweights. Their brand of industrial post-punk is unique as it is exciting. Their high energy shows are currently leaving their mark overseas with the band on their first UK / EU tour. Don't sleep on this band - come and see them at SILO.
MELALEUCA's Final Show
This one is for the GRAIN OG's. One of our absolute all time favourite bands who has played so many of our shows in the past - Melaleuca are calling it a day. We are absolutely honoured to be hosting their final ever performance at SILO. Melaleuca are truly one of Brisbane's best bands and we have been obsessed with them ever since their first single back in 2019.
From a personal standpoint, so many of Melaleuca's honest and relatable guitar driven pop songs have soundtracked lots of memories over the years and I'm already getting emotional thinking about how this will be the last time we get to see one of Brisbane's finest. We're giving Melaleuca as much time as we can on stage to play through as many hits as possible and I can't wait.
SONIC REDUCER
Alright, that's enough of being sappy, introducing Sonic Reducer who are on the lineup to melt your face off. I saw Sonic Reducer supporting Royel Otis in London and they were outstanding. Absolutely ready for the big stage - this band from Canberra are not interested in losing any momentum. The band are garnering a cult-like following and their gritty punk is already influencing and misguiding teens around the country. We are absolutely here for it and are so excited to welcome them back to Meanjin.
DOGWORLD
dogworld strikes a mercurial sound, a vivid collision of modern post-punk and indie rock, tethered by razor-sharp melodic intuition. The four-piece have made waves in Canberra since forming in 2021, with their trademark raw, energetic performance style. Now based in Melbourne, dogworld are a vital act to watch in 2025.
We've been following this badn since their first few releases back in 2022 and they keep finding new ground with each new track. We can't wait to see them and are so stoked to be hosting them at SILO 27.
GHOST MUTT
Crooning, wailing and occasionally inward screaming, Ghost Mutt hurl their special brand of moody pop-rock into the universe. The Brisbane band counter the roar of existence with earnest bilingual lyricism and good humour - layering harmonies, synths and spacey guitars alongside crunchy distortion and pop hooks.
ALISON
FKA Alison Road, Alison is a band that I am really excited about. Drawing influence from 90's grunge / shoegaze Alison is one of Meanjin's most exciting up and comers and feel like a perfect fit on this lineup.
