FLOODLIGHTS
If you're like us, you've jumped at every chance to see Floodlights in the past few years as they've cemented their reputation as the country's newest pub-rock storytellers - not in that daggy way, but the way that poetically crafts Australian stories in a unique and honest terms. Their dynamic live performance is raw and intimate, intertwined with powerful outbursts and marching rhythms. Evocative lyricism lies at the heart of their songwriting and is enhanced by their unique sound, exploring themes of personal turbulence, national identity and the Australian landscape as a form of escapism.
Their recent second record 'Painting of My Time' conjures the rawness of rock ‘n’ roll through a soundscape of dynamic post-punk and art rock, whilst introducing trumpet, grand piano, violin and synth to the equation. A marked progression and musicality resulting in a sound rich in emotion.
PLATONIC SEX
Platties have been part of our GRAIN ecosystem in many ways over the years, in different bands and projects - we've showcased them on Matesounds and Birthday weekenders past and it's finally time to host them on one of our favourite lineups SILO has presented yet.
While any reputable queer advice column will tell you that there is, in fact, such a thing as too much processing, Platonic Sex are yet to approach their limit. At the intersection of rock aesthetics and folk storytelling, the band's guitar-driven melodies cocoon lyrics which explore the duality of toughness and intimacy. It also helps they're one of the most shit-hot live bands this city has ever produced. Get ready folks, it's Platonic Sex's world and we're about to realise we've been living in it all along.
BLUE DINER
blue diner. is a fresh alternative, post-punk shoegaze band hailing from the sleepy suburb of Ashgrove. This much talked about act is about to deliver a cathartic performance not to be missed - check out the first release below.
FLOODING.
Brisbane five piece post-rock/pop shoegaze outfit FLOODING. have been making a mark n stages over the past two years, and we're keen for you to see what everyone's been making such a buzz about.
